Can I kickbox if … I’m trying to lose weight?
Yes! In fact, our fitness kickboxing classes at Apexx provide a fantastic workout for weight loss goals. Believe it or not, throwing down on the bag works your entire body! A simple fist strike or jab isn’t just using the muscles of that one arm, your core, back, and glutes are all working together – just to name a few. This full-body approach combined with fast, powerful movement adds up to some serious calories burned meaning your goal weight could be closer than you think!
Can I kickbox if … I have NO idea what a jab, cross, or hook is?
Yes! One of the fun things about taking kickboxing classes as Apexx is that you aren’t just getting a great workout – you’re also learning a new skill and our instructors are there to help you do just that. We have all of our new students schedule their first class so that our instructor team is available to help you out one-on-one for your first workout. They’ll make sure you know all the moves and hang out to assist you with form as well. We know it can be scary to try something new and that’s why we make every effort to ensure you have a BLAST working out with us from day one.
Can I kickbox if … I don’t know anything about martial arts?
Yes! Most of our regular kickboxers here at Apexx have never done formal martial arts training, but you’d never know it from looking at their sidekicks! We will teach you everything you need to know in order to have fun and get results with your fitness kickboxing workout! We’ll even include some solid self-defense moves!
Additionally, if you’re interested in going on to learn martial arts you’ll find many of the skills and abilities you develop in kickboxing like improved balance, flexibility, and confidence all translate exceeding well to martial arts! Check out our adult martial arts program for more information.
Can I kickbox if … I wear glasses?
Yes! At Apexx we focus on fitness kickboxing rather than sparring. That means that while you’ll have the occasional partner drill, most of your boxing time will be spent on the bag and at no point will you ever have to worry about getting punched in the face. We promise! You may even be able to remove your glasses entirely if that’s most comfortable. Bottom line: if you normally wear them to the gym or for your other workouts – you should be fine for kickboxing as well.
Can I kickbox if … I haven’t been working out at all?
Yes! Another great thing about fitness kickboxing is that you have a LOT of control over the intensity of your workout. We’ll provide you a combination of kicks and punches but it’s up to you how fast you want to move and how hard you want to hit. Having a harder time with a particular move? Simply slow it down and find your own flow. Furthermore, our instructors are always moving around the room and are happy to help you adjust a specific move or combination to better fit your skill level making these classes very adaptable to wherever you are with your fitness journey.
